Charles Rowley

1929 Coleman 4x4 Dump Truck

 

Note:

  • Photos and measurements taken of actual truck to be used in building the model.  The real one is located in Bridgwater, New Hampshire and a visit was made to see the truck and get the information.
  • Scratch built Buda engine is made of plastic stock.  Side panels have the BUDA name cast in place.  The rear wheels have 53 separate pieces in each one.  Castings were made of some parts to insure all pieces were the same for each wheel.  Front wheel hubs are resin castings.
  • Fenders are brass.  The radiator top of Renshape with "COLEMAN" hand carved in the top.  Hood is brass.  Body is sheet plastic.  Paint is Krylon "Bauhaus" Gold and matches the actual color.  Body is engine black.  Decals are computer generated and printed on ALPS.

Note:

  • Replica of the real "Nashole". Saw it at the Hollister Street Festival in 2018. My buddy Steve hooked me up with a resin kit from Altered States.
  • Chopped the top, had to redo the rear glass, Scratch-built the chassis, interior and dice. Found the small block chevy engine, automatic transmission, tires and wheels from my "parts box". Carburetors are from Fireball Motoworks 
  • Paint is Nash Berkshire Green and Nash Frosted White from Scalefinishes. "Nashole" decal is from Steve.

Note:

  • I started with a Jimmy Flinstone Track nose T body. I replaced the track nose and hood. the bellypan is a vaccuform that I made. The frame is modified from a 29 Ford kit. The rear end is from R&MoM and the front suspension is cut down from a Revell T street rod kit. The rear shocks are scratch built
  • The headlights are from Shapeways. The engine is from a Revell 40 Ford kit and the interior is completely scratch built except for the dash which is a cut down 36 Ford dash. The inner wheels and tires are from Herb Deeks and the hub caps are cut down 53 Hudson caps. The spinners are brass.
  • The windshield frame is cut down from a Revell 32 Ford kit and the glass is clear styrene sheet. the paint is Duplicolor gloss black. An article from a 1953 Hot Rod Magazine was used for reference.

  • I owned this pickup.  Resin '69 grill by others, scratch-built many parts, such as the toolbox.  Promo style chassis not detailed.
  • Scratch-built bench seat, door panels, pedals, column shifter, single exhaust, fan shroud, hood hinges, RV mirrors, rear bumper, door handles, steps.  Modified air cleaner, brake booster, window, grill with better headlights, front bumper.  Removed top trim molding.  Correct taillights and tailgate. 
  • Detail Master wipers.  Fireball Modelworks slotted mag wheels, tires from Italeri Ferrari.  Best Model Parts gauges.  Splash paint matched to factory code.  Real flagstone on real wood pallet.  Weathered the bed with salt method.  Photos of license plates, kit box & owner manual printed on paper.
